Day 52

We began our day in Lake City, Florida. I was privileged to ride today with Edouard Lassegue, representing Compassion International and my lifelong friend Scott Elliott. We enjoyed a leisurely start to begin the 68 miles to Jacksonville.

Day 51

Today turned out to be a wonderful day of riding and a fun day for Marilyn and me. I left the picturesque town of Monticello, Florida around 8:00am this morning under clear skies and rode 65 miles to Live Oak, Florida where Marilyn and I were joined by our great friends, Scott and Melissa Elliott.

If you’ve been reading this blog as I have crossed the country you will know that I have spent many days with Mr. H. Wind. These last few days he has had a contemptuous relationship with Patricia resulting in very difficult riding conditions for me.

Day 48

I awoke early this morning with an eye on the weather. I planned to get an early start so as to avoid the stronger winds later in the day. Unfortunately the winds were strong out of the east all night and were blowing strong early in the morning.

Day 47

My ride took me through some beautiful low country and Gulf coast area. I left Pascagoula, Mississippi around 7:30 in the morning and headed to Dauphin Island, Alabama. From there I took the ferry across the mouth of Mobile Bay over to Fort Morgan which is on the western tip of the Gulf Shores area. I ended the day in Gulf Shores Alabama.

Day 46

After three days of rest it felt good to get back on my bike. I started out just as the sun was peeking up above the bayou. It was a beautiful sight. I was hoping to get as many miles behind me before the wind picked up. I made it about 12 miles.

Our rest here in Slidell was at a perfect time and a perfect place. I could feel my body fatiguing during the last few days of this journey and I was ready for a rest. There could not be a better place to do so than in this special place.
